Broadway Rocks!

This past Saturday was visiting day for our first session campers and most important of all, Pageant! Throughout the day each of the age groups of campers presented their one acts directed by Nora. Campers were also able to show their parents around the beautiful campus of Carthage for any class demos. There was even a chance for a swim in the Olympic sized pool for family and Campers.

Around four campers had to part ways to get ready for costume calls for their big night. As Campers gathered backstage as parents sat in the audience, as well as fellow Harand alumni. The curtain rose and campers shined and had the audience tapping along with them. Campers were so thrilled to finally show their loved ones what they had been working hard on for so long!

Second Session has already made its way here! The shows that are in production with campers now are Annie, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Grease and Urinetown (youngest to oldest).

Quidditch and More!

Things have been moving faster and faster here at Harand. Campers are now moving further into rehearsals for pageant. Sunday though we took a break from all the dancing and focused on the Harand House Cup we had our carnival. Each team thinks of two booths that can be anything from obstacle courses, jail booths, marriage booths, messenger booth, that all the campers run and also enjoy. It's a great team building experience all around. At meals instead of cabins sitting together, teams got to sit with each other.

After the carnival, we did round 3 of the House Cup events, Quidditch. For those unfamiliar with Quidditch I would better explain it here. There were three rounds pinning each team up for a final winner of the game.

We nearing the end of the second week, tomorrow we are going to have part two of talent show, and then the fourth of July dance!

Rockin' and Rollin' here at Harand!

We are nearing the end of the first week of our 57th year here at Harand Camp! We had a hobby night this past Wednesday. Campers chose from friendship bracelet making, cute hair accessory crafts, fishing, games and more! Thursday was the first event in the Harand Camp House Cup; each of the four teams came together bursting with team spirit. We played our own version of "Wheel of Fortune" called "Wheel of Wizardry" each puzzle was a phrase from the Harry Potter series. It gave most haranders an excuse to show off all their worldly knowledge of the Harry Potter universe.

Although this week has been pretty chilly and rainy in Kenosha, campers are still shining on the stage. Friday night was our first services of the session and most importantly Workshop! Workshop is our first peak into what every camper is working on for Pageant. There were only four days of learning, rehearsing and practicing and it’s amazing to see the results of such a short amount of time. The campers sure had a great turn out in only four days; we can only imagine what they can do in three weeks!

Next up is talent show, and more Harry Potter media madness fun!

Media Madness

Well it's day three of our 57th season at Harand Camp. There are lots of rehearsals and dance numbers coming together for this Fridays Workshop! Tuesday was the opening ceremonies of Media Madness. Media Madness (for those of you don’t know) is when the camp divides into different teams and competes in games, track meet, carnival, and song & skit. The team with the most points at the end of the events wins the ultimate ice cream sundae bar (and bragging rights). Each session a theme is chosen to base the games off of. This session in honor the last movie coming out, this session’s theme… Drum roll… is Harry Potter.

That's right; Harander’s have been sorted into the four Hogwarts houses to compete for the Harand House Cup! After the opening ceremonies the teams meet up to their perspective team meeting zones to come up with House cheers.

More House cup events to come let the games begin!

Let the Fun Begin!

Hello!
The Harand blogger here. Today was a big day, it was the first official full day of camp! Campers were eager to start their classes. They chose between activities like: volleyball, zumba, old school games, yoga, arts and crafts, tech, and costuming! Campers also anxiously awaited to hear about what songs they had in their sections for our "Broadway Rocks" Pageant of summer 2011. They are already hard at work for this friday's Workshop review. Workshop is a chance for the whole camp to see what we're all working on in dance and singing classes. Probably the only chance for campers to see what everyone is doing before the big night!

Enough hard work already! Tonight was the first of many outings, Bowling! Campers piled onto the buses, ready to bowl a strike or two! The bowling alley also had a jukebox with a pretty extensive music library, plenty of pageant songs (past and present) where played, new and old dance moves we revived and shown off. No matter where Haranders go, singing and dancing is sure to follow.

What an exciting an fun filled day, with many more to follow.
